In March of 2005, Rose Champagne was inspired to create a dance troupe which would promote the art of Oriental dance, and provide an opportunity for its members to grow and mature as dancers. Now, five years later, the members of Troupe Sahibat continue to benefit from the friendships and experiences that Rose envisioned.

Sahibat, which means "girlfriends" in Arabic is comprised of women from Western Mass and Southern Vermont. Under the direction of Rose, the Troupe performed her choreographies at many venues, sharing the dances that Rose created with audiences in Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut and New Jersey.

After battling cancer for over four years, Rose passed away in February of 2008. Troupe Sahibat cherishes her memory and the legacy of her passion for Oriental dance. Drawing on the foundation Rose gave them, Sahibat began creating new dances and in 2009 were the proud winners of the Best Troupe Choreography and People's Choice Award at the Viva La Diva Pageant in Boston.

Dancing together, the members of Troupe Sahibat demonstrate precision and synchrony. As soloists, their dances showcase the unique personality of each member. The Troupe seeks to be culturally appropriate, aspiring to remain true to the high standards set by Rose Champagne throughout her career.

Troupe Sahibat has been featured at Northampton's First Night Celebration since 2006. The group has participated in public events such as the Easthampton Art Walks and the Taste of West Springfield, performed at nursing homes and fundraising events, and entertained at private parties and weddings. At each venue, the Troupe seeks to represent the art of Middle Eastern dance with integrity and professionalism.
